BOSTON — Vanderbilt track and field continued its season Friday at Harvard’s Crimson Elite highlighted by personal best and top 10 ranking performances by Madison Murray and Falon Spearman in their respective events.
For the second consecutive meet, graduate student Murray recorded a personal best in the pentathlon. She tallied 3,612 points to claim 10th place and is now tied for seventh in program history in the event. Murray also recorded career-best marks in the 60-meter hurdles (9.08 seconds) and the shot put (10.47 meters).
Junior Ella Escobar had the top Commodore time in the 60 meters, crossing the finish line in 7.70 seconds to place 20th in the qualifying round.
In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Spearman turned in personal-best times in the qualifying round (8.64 seconds) and the semifinal round (8.51 seconds). She is now tied for fourth all-time at Vandy. Santana Spearman recorded a time of 8.59 seconds in the qualifying and semifinal rounds.
Lena Gooden finished first among freshmen and fifth overall in the long jump, recording a 5.79-meter mark.
To close out Friday’s meet, senior Nicole Anderson placed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 58.67 seconds.
Action continues Saturday at Boston University’s Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the long jump. The meet is streamed by FloTrack and live results are available online.
