Second Round Results

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The number one-ranked Commodore men’s golf team carded the second-lowest round of the day at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Los Cabos, Mexico, and moved up seven places on the team leader board to sixth place after posting a four-under par, 280 on Monday. Sophomore Patrick Martin had the low round of the day for the Commodores with a four-under par, 67, on the Los Cabos Querencia Golf Course.

The Commodores counted Martin’s 67, a 68 from senior Matthias Schwab, a 72 from freshman John Augenstein, and a 73 from junior Theo Humphrey. Martin is Vanderbilt’s leader after two rounds with a 141 (74-67).

“I think we knew that it was going to be a character building day,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “This group showed a lot of resiliency as a whole in how they responded to adversity. Patrick and Matthias played really well which lifted the team up and I thought Theo showed a lot of toughness after a tough start.”

In all, Vanderbilt had 15 counting birdies and one eagle from Humphrey on the par-five, 595-yard ninth hole. The Commodores’ 280 was only one shot back of Oklahoma State’s 279 for the best round of the day.

For the tournament, Vanderbilt has a total of 574 (294-280) after two rounds and are in sixth overall. Oklahoma State is leading the tournament at 16-under par, 552 (273-279), and Texas’ Steven Chervony leads all individuals with an eight-under par, 134 (66-68).

The final round of the tournament concludes on Tuesday.

“Tomorrow is our next opportunity to grow as a team and we need to be excited about that,” said Limbaugh. “We have to continue to focus on the right things and compete.”
