Dores Battle Hogs, Drury

Vandy impressive in season opener

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Vanderbilt started its swimming season Saturday at Arkansas Natatorium while facing off against Arkansas and Drury. Vanderbilt picked up a 142-118 win over Drury while dropping a 163-97 decision to the host Razorbacks.

The Dores christened the meet by placing second overall in the 200-yard medley relay (1:43.67), with Clare Vetkoetter punching in a bronze-worthy performance in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:43.63).

Eleanor Beers was fourth among the field in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.48), as Tonner Debeer tapped third in the 100-yard backstroke.

Francesca Neubauer (1:05.40) and Lizzy Colwell (1:06.04) went 4-5 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Mercedes Traba’s 2:09.23 in the 200-yard butterfly was good for fourth. Grayson Almasi (23.84) and Beers (23.92) went 3-4 in the splash-and-dash, with Beers (52.29) adding a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.

Traba added a win the 500-yard freestyle by going 5:04.61, and Debeer topped the field with a 55.34 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Alina Stout (2:07.67) was fourth in the 200-yard backstroke, and Neubauer (2:24.40) chipped in a sixth-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The Dores closed the meet by churning out a 3:32.66 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Vandy continues the season Oct. 16 at Florida Gulf Coast.
