Dores and Dogs Tied Atop the Leaderboard

Vandy co-leaders with Georgia going into the final 18

EATONTON, Ga. — Vanderbilt continued to play exceptional golf Monday at the Linger Longer Invitational and remained in contention going into Tuesday’s final round.

The Commodores and Georgia virtually played shot-for-shot Monday with the Bulldogs going 12-under-par and Vandy going 11-under-par. Vanderbilt and the Bulldogs are tied at 20-under-par going into the final 18 at the Great Waters Golf Course.

“I am pleased with the way the boys competed today. It was great having all five guys in it all day,” Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh said. “I thought it was a total team effort.”

Every Commodore is inside the top 16 on the individual leaderboard with Cole Sherwood leading the way at 8-under-par. Sherwood was 4-under-par for the day and is tied for second overall and is three strokes back of leader Jacob Bridgeman of Clemson (-11).

Gordon Sargent (-5) rose into seventh place with a 67 Tuesday and Harrison Ott (-3) was 1-under-par in the second round. Ott is tied for 12th.

“Gordon played a really good round and was very much in control all day long. I’m extremely proud of Cole and how he stayed patient early in his round when he wasn’t hitting it great. He hung in there then found something on the back nine and played great,” Limbaugh said. “It’s exciting to see him take steps and take ownership. Also, really excited to see William (Moll) play a great round and continue to gain some confidence.”

Jackson Van Paris and Reid Davenport are both tied for 16th at 2-under-par for the tournament. Davenport and Sargent each carded an eagle during their respective second round.

Moll, competing as an individual, shot a 5-under-par 67 on Tuesday and is tied for eighth overall. Moll had five birdies and played a bogey-free round.

The Commodores will begin their third round at 9 a.m. CT Tuesday and will once again be paired with Georgia and Florida.

“Tuesday will be another great opportunity for us. It’s an important day because it’s our next chance to learn more about our team,” Limbaugh said. “We certainly don’t expect the other teams to stumble because we have a lot of respect for all these programs.

“It’s about what we do and my request is that we compete to our standards, have fun and lock-in mentally. When we do that we are a pretty good team.”
