SATURDAY’S RESULTS: HERE
Competing at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame on Saturday, the Vanderbilt distance medley team posted a school-record setting time of 11:19.34.
The Commodores, who were looking to qualify for the NCAA meet, gained valuable experience — and notched the top mark on VU’s all-time list — while participating in Saturday’s event, which featured a talent-rich field of teams.
Baylor was especially impressive, posting a first-place time of 10:58.52. New Mexico (11:01.44) finished second, followed by Notre Dame (11:01.59) and Michigan (11:03.23) to round out the Top-4. Vanderbilt, which will compete in the SEC Championships next week, was 11th.
“This was not the result we wanted, but we can learn a lot from being in this environment,” said head coach Steve Keith. “We need to continue to test ourselves at this national level and believe in ourselves.”
For the Commodores, Courtney Clayton ran the 1200 leg at 3:25.9, Jennifer Edobi ran the 400 at 53.7, Skyler Carpenter ran the 800 at 2:12.0 and Sara Barron ran the 1600 at 4:47.8.
“The best way to improve as a team is to extend ourselves like we did today,” said Keith. “And now, we’ll get fresh, reload and set our sights on the SEC meet next weekend (in Lexington).”
