Distance Dores Head to Raleigh

Action gets underway Thursday afternoon

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Commodores continue their outdoor track and field season on Thursday when a group of distance student-athletes head to Raleigh, North Carolina, for NC State’s Raleigh Relays.

Vanderbilt opened its outdoor slate at the Hampton Inn River City Relays where Elizabeth Bailey broke the program record in the javelin and Commodores added eight performances to the school’s all-time top 10 lists. A member of the winning 4×400-meter relay and the first-place finisher in the 400 meters, Faith Franklin was named the SEC Freshman of the week. Both marks are ranked third in school history and top 3 in the SEC, top 5 in the NCAA so far this season.

The Vanderbilt men’s cross country team will be sending a squad of runners to Raleigh to compete in the 800, 1,500 and 5,000 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase with events beginning Thursday at 3:15 p.m. CT. Action for the Vanderbilt women’s team gets underway Friday at 1:10 p.m. CT with the 400 meters. Live results are available through Flash Results, and the meet will be streamed on ACCNX.
