The Vanderbilt cross country/track and field program continued to build for the future with the signings of Reagan Bustamante and Kendall Derry to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.
Derry, who was a Footlocker Finalist in 2014, is from Fair Oaks, Calif., and is a prep standout at Bella Vista High.
Bustamante is from Springfield, Va., where she is a decorated athlete for West Springfield High.
“We’re very excited to add Reagan and Kendall to our recruiting class of 2016,” said Vanderbilt track and field/cross country head coach Steve Keith. “They are very motivated student-athletes and will add quality depth to our mid-distance/distance program while also contributing in cross country.”
Here’s a closer look at the incomers:
Reagan Bustamante
Why I chose Vanderbilt: “I wanted to be a part of a competitive team and help contribute to a great D1 program. The educational value offered at Vanderbilt is uncontested, and can greatly help me pursue my academic goals. The commodore family is unlike any other, and I can’t wait to be apart of it!”
Quoting associate head coach Rhonda Riley: “Reagan is a great addition to our young squad. Reagan has a tremendous amount of upside at the college level and will be a valuable person to our team. Her desire to get a great education and contribute to our program is a testament to her work ethic and drive to excel in all that she does.”
Kendall Derry
Why I chose Vanderbilt: “Vanderbilt is the perfect balance between strong academics and D1 athletics. Also, the school size is perfect for me, Nashville is a great city, and the coaches and teammates really seem to care for one another. I can’t wait to join the Commodore family!”
Quoting associate head coach Rhonda Riley: “Kendall is a very motivated young lady and has what it takes to be a fantastic collegiate athlete. She brings a lot of positive energy and it will be infectious on this team. We are excited to have Kendall be a Commodore and know she has a very bright future wearing the black and gold uniform.”
