Day one complete at QCC for MG

First Round Results

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The #15-ranked Commodores ended the first round of play at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Los Cabos, Mexico, with a 10-over par, 294, which tied them for 12th place on the team leader board heading into the second round on Monday.

Vanderbilt’s two freshmen starters, Patrick Martin and Will Gordon, led the way for the Commodores with a pair of one-over par, 72’s, which tied them for 37th individually.

“We had a tough day out there today but these are the rounds we can really learn from,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “If we will take this opportunity to grow from this, then it will help us down the road. This is part of our journey and we talked about that before we got here. We know this course will test your patience, commitment, and resiliency and today we didn’t handle all of that as good as we need to. However, I thought we really hung in there on the last few holes and did some great things that will give us some momentum for tomorrow. We aren’t happy with how we played, but there are two more rounds to go and we will embrace what’s ahead of us.”

South Florida leads the team leader board with a ten-under par, 274, one stroke better than second-place Baylor. Individually, Mario Carmona of Rice carded a five-under, 66, to lead all individuals after the first round.

The Commodores will begin the second round with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Pacific Time at the par-71, Los Cabos Querencia.
