NEW YORK — The Vanderbilt track and field team continued it success in the indoor season, seeing several personal records set on the first day of the Armory Collegiate Invitational in Manhattan.
Commodore action began with Janetra Gleaves running a personal best of 7.86 in the 60 meter dash. She was just one-tenth of a second from qualifying for the finals in the college division.
The 200 meters saw a trio of Vanderbilt runners set personal bests. Faith Washington posted the best time of 24.81, a personal record, and a time that was good for eighth place. Jennifer Cannon crossed the line in 25.18, also a personal best, and a 21st place finish. Skyler Carpenter was 31st with a mark of 25.48, while Gleaves’ time of 25.95 was a personal best.
Kristen Findley and Katherine Delaney both ran in the 1,000 meters championship field. Findley finished 16th in 2:52.08, while Delaney ran a PR and finished 21st in 2:54.67.
Jordan White ran in the championship field of the 5,000 meter run and finished eighth with a time of 15:58.52.
Cannon, Gleaves and Washington wrapped-up black and gold action on the track for the day in the 60 meter hurdles championship field. Cannon was 32nd in 8.75, followed by Gleaves in 33rd with 8.77. Washington was 41st with a time of 8.87.
The day’s field action started with Cannon and Carpenter in the college long jump. Carpenter finished 14th in the field with a mark of 5.53 meters (18’1.75″), while Cannon jumped 5.13 meters (16’10”).
Ellie Tidman finished eight in the college division for the high jump, clearing 1.70 meters (5’7″).
“Not a bad day at the races,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Steve Keith said. “Faith was very solid and just missed the 200 college final. Jordan White continues to show improvement and the 5K should be a good event for her in three weeks at the SEC meet. Our hurdlers plateaued a little bit, but they competed well with all three in the championship division finishing second in their heats.”
Keith is excited to get back at it tomorrow.
“Tomorrow, along with a number of early morning distance races, we’re really looking forward to getting the 4×400 team on the track and seeing what that young squad can do,” Keith says. “We also have Brionne in the championship high jump field, which is really talented.”
Day two action at the Armory is scheduled to begin with the 3,000 meters. Rebecca Chandler, Amira Joseph, Grace Orders and Allie Scalf will run in the college division. The day will also see Findley, Vanessa Valentine and Lily Williams run in the mile college division, Sara Barron and Delaney in the 800 meters college division and a Commodore team in the 4×400 meter relay.
Two Commodores will compete in championship divisions: Hannah Jumper in the mile and Brionne Williams in the high jump.
