Senior sprinter Courtney Clayton qualified for the NCAA National Track & Field Championships with a time of 2:04.15 in the 800-meter run at the NCAA East Regionals on Friday. Her national qualifying time nearly broke her school-record mark 2:04.12.
Clayton will join senior pole vaulter Sarah Bell at the National Championship meet. Bell qualified for the meet on Thursday after clearing the bar at 4.20 meters. The National Championships will take place in Eugene, Ore. from June 7-10.
Clayton used a late charge to surge past Indiana State’s Alethia Marrero on the final 100-meter stretch of the race to finish to take third in the heat and earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships. Marrero went on to earn the race’s final at-large qualification.
Junior Jenn Edobi competed in the 400-meter dash quarterfinals and placed 15th overall with a new career-best time of 52.75, which dropped nearly a half of a second off of her old personal record.
Senior Carmen Carlos will compete at the NCAA East Regionals tomorrow in the 5000-meter run, which will take place at 7:05 p.m. (ET).
