NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt defeated Lipscomb 15-1 on Tuesday night at Ken Dugan Field behind a season-high 19 hits.
Logan Johnstone went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI. Rustan Rigdon drove in three runs on two hits and Korbin Reynolds knocked in a pair as well. Ryker Waite went 3-for-5 and Brodie Johnston reached base five times and scored four times.
The Commodores put runs on the board in each of the first seven innings and in eight of the nine innings total.
Johnstone opened the scoring in the top of the first. Johnston lined a one-out single, advanced to second on an error and came home on a single through the left side by Johnstone.
Rigdon led off the top of the second with a home run to right field, his fourth long ball of the season, to give Vandy a 2-0 lead.
Rigdon registered his second RBI of the day with an RBI single in the top of the third, plating Johnston to give the Dores a three-run advantage.
Reynolds started the fourth with a single up the middle and came around to score on a single by Johnstone to stretch the Vanderbilt lead to four.
Vanderbilt kept adding on in the fifth as Rigdon worked a walk and first to third on a single by Waite with Waite moving up to second on the throw. Both runners came in on a single by Reynolds as the freshman catcher made it 6-0, Vandy.
The Dores put two more runs on the board in the sixth. Tommy Goodin doubled off the wall to score Johnstone and Braden Holcomb scored on a sac fly by Rigdon. Rigdon’s fourth RBI of the game pushed the lead to 8-0.
Lipscomb got on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, Johnston was hit by a pitch to extend the inning and Johnstone sent the next pitch over the wall in right for his ninth homer on the year.
Aukai Kea entered the game as a pinch hitter with a runner on in the top of the ninth and launched a no-doubter to left, his third home run of the season, to make it 12-1.
Mack Whitcomb added a two-run single in the ninth and Waite scored on a wild pitch for Vandy’s 15th run of the evening.
Vanderbilt used five arms on the mound. Connor Hamilton held the Bisons scoreless over the first two innings. Aiden Stillman followed with two more scoreless frames, striking out four.
Tristan Bristow kept Lipscomb off the board in the fifth and Alex Kranzler struck out five batters over two innings. Jakob Schulz struck out two of the four batters he faced in the eighth and Jacob Faulkner retired the side in order in the ninth.
The Commodores (22-16, 7-8 SEC) return to SEC action this weekend in Lexington, Kentucky, taking on Kentucky (25-10, 7-8 SEC) for a three-game series beginning Friday.
