Second Round Results

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team fired a five-under par, 283, on Monday at the Nike Collegiate Invitational in the second round of play at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club’s Witch Hollow Course in Portland, Oregon. The Commodores moved up two positions on the team leader board to 10th with a total of 566 (283-283), with junior Matthias Schwab leading the way for VU, posting a three-under par, 69, on the day.

Schwab carded two birdies and an eagle in his round on Monday in route to the 69, and is in a tie for 15th place in the individual standings.

Vanderbilt also counted a pair of one-under, 71’s, from freshmen Patrick Martin and Will Gordon, respectively, and an even-par 72 from senior Zack Jaworski.

“We were a little better today than we were yesterday and that’s encouraging,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “All five guys competed and were in it. We have to continue to understand momentum and the value of keeping it and making good decisions during that time. These things matter to the guys and we will continue to work on focusing on the right things at the right times so we can grow each time out.”

The Commodores trail 9th-place Clemson by three shots heading into the final round Tuesday. Wake Forest maintains the team lead with a total of 546 (269-277), two shots better than second-place USC. Individually, Beau Hossler of Texas and Max Greyserman of Duke have the lead with a 10-under par, 133 total.

“What an awesome opportunity we have tomorrow to continue to try to be the best version of us we can be,” said Limbaugh.

The final round concludes Tuesday at Pumpkin Ridge.
