Mohr and Lee earn spot in quarterfinals at NCAA Doubles Championship

STILLWATER, Okla. – Advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championships is Vanderbilt women’s tennis student-athlete Célia-Belle Mohr. In the Round of 16 on Wednesday she defeated Oklahoma State’s Ange Oby Kajuru in three sets to upset the No. 3 ranked individual in the nation, 6-7 (6), 6-1, 7-6 (3).

Mohr battled Kajuru in a close first set, falling behind in a tiebreak that went to her opponent 7-6 (8-6). She stormed back in the second set 6-1 to put herself back in the match and force a third set. Mohr and Kajuru went point-for-point, but Mohr pulled out a victory, taking the match 7-6 (7-3) and advancing to the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Mohr is scheduled to face Georgia’s Anastasiia Lopata, ranked No. 70 nationally, on Thursday. Lopata holds a 25-9 overall record for this season.

Wednesday afternoon No. 33 Mohr and Anessa Lee took to the courts in doubles, going up against Stanford’s No. 10 Connie Ma and Alexandra Yepifanova and defeated the west coast pair in two sets, 6-4, 6-0. The Dores will take on the winner of the 4:30 p.m. CT match, either UC Santa Barbara’s Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter or Oklahoma State’s Kajuru and Anastasiya Komar, on Thursday.
