LOS CABOS, Mexico – The 17th-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team is in a tie for fifth place with host SMU after the second round of the Querrencia Cabo Intercollegiate in Los Cabos, Mexico with a team total of 586 (296-290). Senior Charlie Ewing paced the Commodore effort and is in third place on the individual leader board with a score of one-under par, 141 (70-71).

Vanderbilt trails fourth-place Kentucky by one stroke and is 13 shots behind team leader Houston, who ended the second day of play with a team score of 573 (288-285).

“I’m really proud of the fight and character this team continues to show,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We want to continue to learn and grow from the simple mistakes we are making.”

Ewing posted an even-par 71 on Monday at the Los Cabos Querencia with Vanderbilt’s low score of the day. The Commodores also counted a 72 from sophomore Zack Jaworski, a 73 from junior Hunter Stewart, and a pair of 74’s from freshman Matthias Schwab and sophomore Carson Jacobs.

“We had all five guys in it competing today and that’s important on this course,” said Limbaugh. “Charlie was solid once again. We are excited about the opportunity we have tomorrow.”

Houston’s Roman Robledo followed his first-round 68 with another 68 on Monday and leads all individuals with a score of 136 (68-68). Kyle Jones of Baylor is in second with a 139 (74-65), with Ewing in third with a total of 141.
