Commodore Invitational Results
ON CAMPUS IN NASHVILLE — Senior middle distance runners Jenn Edobi and Courtney Clayton, and sophomore pole vaulters Caleigh Lofstead and Kristen Denk produced Vanderbilt’s top individual results Saturday at the Commodore Invitational.
Edobi, a 400-meter specialist, narrowly missed an indoor career best in the 800-meter run. She was clocked in 2:09.18, just .02 off her indoor collegiate best set as a freshman in 2015. Edobi was followed closely by sophomore teammate Becca Schulte, who ran 2:11.41 for fourth place.
Edobi and Schulte also were part of the Commodores’ 4×400-meter relay that finished the meet impressively with a strong second behind Middle Tennessee. Edobi, Schulte, Clayton and freshman Regan Clay finished in 3:43.22, the program’s seventh quickest indoor 4×400 effort.
The team’s top field result Saturday came in the pole vault when sophomores Caleigh Lofstead and Kristen Denk finished second and third, respectively. Both cleared 12-11.5 and had close misses on 13-3.5. Denk’s clearance equals the fourth best indoor vault ever by a Commodore.
Senior Sarah Bell, the team’s indoor and outdoor record holder in the pole vault, was sixth with a jump of 12-1.5. Sophomore Margaret Ollinger also cleared the same height.
Prior to running in the 4×400-meter relay, Clayton paced several teammates in the mile with a third-place finish in 4:50.24. Teammates Kendall Derry and Reagan Bustamante were just behind Clayton in fourth and fifth place with times of 4:56.61 and 4:56.68, respectively.
Clay, who finished fourth in the 200 meters Friday, entered a Vanderbilt all-time Top Ten mark with a 7.86 performance in the 60-meter dash.
Two young Commodore distance runners, freshmen Gillian Mortimer and Anna Grace Morgan, finished sixth and seventh in the 3,00-meter run. They were closed in 10:03.48 and 10:06.71, respectively.
The Commodores are back in competition next weekend, hosting the Vanderbilt Invitational Jan. 19-20 in the multipurpose facility.
