Commodores Head to Cali

Vanderbilt track and field student-athletes headed to two California meets

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A handful of Commodores are headed west to continue the Vanderbilt track and field team’s outdoor campaign at Mt. Sac Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational in California Thursday through Saturday.

Lizzie Bailey will kick off the weekend for the Dores in the javelin competition at Mt. SAC Relays. The graduate student opened her outdoor season with 51.38-meter throw, which reset her own school record and earned a first-place finish at the Hampton Inn River City Relays. Bailey will also compete in the javelin at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Saturday.

The Vanderbilt record holder in the indoor and outdoor 800 meters, Jayden Hill will also represent the Commodores at both meets, running the event Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Saturday at Mt. SAC Relays. Earlier this month at Florida Relays, Hill turned in a personal-best time of 2:03.45 to place eighth in the event and break the school record.

The distance duo of Lily Kriegel and Tyla Lumley is set to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational. This season, Kriegel shattered the 5,000 meters school record at Raleigh Relays, finishing 15th overall, 10th among collegians with a time of 15:56.34. She is also ranked top 10 in program history in the 1,500 meters. At Raleigh Relays, Lumley also reset a Vanderbilt record, registering a time of 33:18.15 in the 10,000 meters.

Sarah Marvin will round out Vandy’s slate of competitors in California. At Florida Relays, Marvin notches a top 3 finish with a season-best 15,33-meter throw in the shot put. She currently ranks fifth in school history in the event.
