Vanderbilt Invitational Records

Senior Simone Charley improved her season-best mark in the triple jump and finished second overall in the triple jump as the Commodores concluded competition at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday. Charley’s leap of 43′ 7″ topped her mark at last weekend’s Commodore Invitational of 43′ 1″. Senior Tierney Price also finished in the top-10 among triple jumpers with a leap of 39′ 9.75″. Price’s mark was also a season-best and was good for a ninth place overall finish.

The Commodores picked up a pair of personal-bests in the 800-meter run, led by junior Jenn Edobi,who earned a sixth-place finish and a time of 2:09.16. Freshman Reagan Bustamante also joined Edobi in the top-10 and bested her previous top mark in the 800-meters with a time of 2:11.74, while placing 10th overall.

The 800-meter run was not the only event to see multiple Vanderbilt athletes set PRs, however. Senior Birdie Hutton finished 23rd in the 3000-meter run with a personal-best time of 10:04.14 and freshman Kacie Breeding also notched a PR while recording a time of 10:26.18, good for 35th overall.

In the pole vault, freshman Margaret Ollinger earned a new collegiate-best mark of 12′ 9.50″, which was good for sixth place overall. Fellow freshman Caleigh Lofstead also competed in the pole vault for the Commodores and recorded a vault of 12′ 2″ after missing last weekend’s Commodore Invitational due to injury.

Nikos Gkotsis finished 12th in the 800-meter run for the Vanderbilt men with a time of 1:54.65. Other Vanderbilt men’s runners to compete in day two of the meet included Jason Vincze (8:55.02) , Sam DeFabrizio (9:04.24), and Caleb Casolaro (9:21.27) in the 3000-meters run, along with Waqqas Fazili (4:33.76) and Andrew Irvine (4:49.86) competing in the mile run.

Earlier in the week, senior Sarah Goodale traveled to Birmingham, Ala. and finished second in the pentathlon event. Goodale’s marks included a new personal record in the shot put with a throw of 37′ 6″. Goodale finished with 3,833 total points in the event.

The Commodores are off from competitions next weekend and will return to action on Feb. 3-4 with their first road meet of the season at the Notre Dame Invitational. The next Vanderbilt home meet will be Feb. 10-11 for the Music City Challenge.
