Commodores Compete in NCAA South Regionals

Niki Naryani earns All-Region honors

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Vanderbilt cross country program competed in the NCAA South Regionals on Friday morning at the John Hunt Cross Country Course.

The Commodore women totaled 327 points to place 10th in the six-kilometer race and earn their fifth top-10 finish on the year. Senior Niki Narayani paced the Commodores for the fourth time this season, while notching a top-25 overall finish. Narayni finished with a time of 20:26.3 to place 23rd overall and earn All-Region honors for the first time in her career.

Sophomore Cameron Fawcett earned a top-50 finish as the second Commodore to cross the finish-line. Fawcett placed 47th overall with a time of 21:00.8. The trio of sophomore Ella Lambert (21:40.8), junior Lainey Phelps (21:45.3) and senior Haley Walker (21:50.1) rounded out Vanderbilt’s top-five performers.

Sophomore Julia Rosenberg also finished for Vandy with a time of 21:52.1.

On the men’s side in the eight-kilometer race, freshman Michael Schumacher paced the Commodores for the third time this season. Schumacher posted a time of 31:57.0, while sophomore Philip Metcalf crossed one second later as the second Commodore to finish.

The duo of sophomore Zach Hodges (32:51.4) and freshman Brody Haar (33:35.3) were additional finishers for the Vanderbilt men.
