Commodores Close SEC Championships

Eleven athletes competed on day three

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Vanderbilt track and field closed out the 2019 SEC 
Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Arkansas.

A quartet of Regan Clay<, Jenn Edobi, Jordan Smith and Taiya Shelby opened the afternoon for the Commodores in the 4×100-meter relay. The squad finished at 47.27.

Grace Jensen competed in the 1,500-meter finals. The freshman clocked a 4:23.95 to finish eighth in the SEC. Jensen’s personal best coming into the weekend was 4:26.30. She ran her two best career times this weekend.

Four Commodores took part in the 5,000-meter run: Sara Tsai (17:33.01), Gillian Mortimer (18:03.89), Ana Wallace (18:27.00) and Devon Grisbaum (18:33.77).

Edobi, Shelby, Haley Walker and Reagan Bustamante closed the night with the 4×400-meter relay, finishing with a time of 3:41.85.

“Best meet in the country, best teams in the country,” said head coach Steve Keith. “It’s always a challenge, I thought we competed hard. Just need more bullets in the gun, so to speak. I think the girls gave great efforts. Proud of Grace, getting points as a freshman. Hopefully we will make some noise at the NCAA First Round.”
