Commodores Check off First Day of SECs

Vanderbilt Track and Field scores in first event of SEC Outdoor Championships, two qualify for event finals

AUBURN, Ala. — Vanderbilt Track and Field shows out for day one of the SEC Championships with one scored event, two qualifying races, and a record book appearance on Thursday in Auburn.

Kicking off the day with the heptathlon, Marta Sivina finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.45 seconds and tied for second with a high jump mark of 1.71 meters. In the shot-put section of the heptathlon, Gianna Bullock earns herself a spot in the record books with a throw of 13.24 meters, becoming the tenth-highest throw in program history. After completing the final event of the day with the 200-meter dash, Sivina finished the first of two days with a leading score of 3,545 points.

Over the course of the afternoon, Lizzie Bailey scores a point for Vanderbilt with an eighth-place finish in the javelin with a 51.31-meter throw. In addition, Jayden Hill and Falon Spearman both automatically qualify for their preliminary times in their respective 800-meter and 400-meter races.

Sivina and Bullock kick off tomorrow’s events, closing out with the heptathlon at 11:45 a.m. with long jump, javelin, and 800-meter events to close out the event.
