Commodores fall to fifth-ranked Gamecocks

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 5 South Carolina used a suffocating second quarter and defeated Vanderbilt 106-43 inside Memorial Gymnasium on Thursday night.

Vanderbilt (4-3, 0-2 SEC) was led in scoring by sophomore Koi Love, who contributed 18 points. Love also snagged nine boards. Enna Pehadzic added nine points for the Dores, while senior Chelsie Hall, who scored her 1,000th career point Sunday, added eight more against the Gamecocks.

As a team, the Commodores nabbed 28 rebounds, with 19 of them coming on the defensive end.

The Gamecocks (9-1, 4-0 SEC) were led by Victaria Saxton, who scored 20 points for their potent offense. Lele Grissett claimed 12 boards with Destanni Henderson had nine assists.

A 22-0 run by South Carolina between the first and second quarters put the game firmly out of reach for the Commodores.

In their next time out, the Commodores will venture to the Bluegrass state to take on No. 12 Kentucky for a 4 p.m. CT tip.
