Senior Courtney Clayton placed seventh overall and ran a new personal-best time of 2:04.02 in the 800-meter run finals at the NCAA Track & Field Championships on Saturday. Clayton and the other seven finalists were all honored as NCAA First Team All-Americans.
Clayton qualified for the finals after running the third-fastest time in the 800-meter semis on Thursday and grabbing one of the two at-large berths into the final field. She was the first Commodore runner to advance to a finals section since 1997 when Ryan Tolbert accomplished the feat.
Oregon’s Raevyn Rogers won the race for the third consecutive season with a time of 2:00.02, which bested Hanna Green of Virginia Tech’s time of 2:01.32 for the 800-meter crown. Below is the final standings for the 800-meter finals:

Earlier during the NCAA Championships on Thursday, senior Sarah Bell also earned NCAA First Team All-American honors with an eight-place finish in the pole vault after clearing 13-7.25 (4.15m). Bell and Clayton marked the first time that multiple Commodores have earned All-American honors at the outdoor track championships since 2004, when Josie Hahn and Erika Schneble were recognized nationally in the heptathlon and 5000-meter run, respectively.
