Carmen Carlos wins 5000m at SEC Relays

Senior Carmen Carlos won the 5000-meter run on day one of the inaugural SEC Relays with a time of 17:00.96. After winning the race, Carlos won’t be returning to West End empty handed. The winner for each event at the SEC Relays receives a commemorative watch. Check out photos of the watches courtesy of LSU’s track and field twitter account:

Sophomore Devon Grisbaum also competed in the 5000-meter run and finished with a time of 19:21.94, which was good for 13th overall.

The sprint medley and 4×800-meter were the two relays that the Commodores competed in on day one. The sprint medley team of Tierney Price, Becca Schulte, Jenn Edobi and Courtney Clayton finished fourth with a time of 3:50.46. The 4×800 relay team, which featured Ginger Hutton, Maddie Criscione, Kendall Derry and Reagan Bustamante, finished with a time of 8:53.61 and a fifth-place finish.

Aside from the sprint medley relay, Schulte also competed in the 400-meter dash. She had a near personal-best mark with a time of 56.33 and placed 12th overall.

Senior Sarah Goodale competed in the most events on day one for the Commodores. Goodale posted marks of 5–3.00 in the high jump, 14.24 in the 100-meter hurdles and 25.70 in the 200-meter dash.

Vanderbilt currently ranks fifth out of the nine teams competing in team scoring with nine points. The scoring system combines the scores of both the men’s and women’s programs. Below are the full standings:
