PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Vanderbilt finished its first tournament of the 2012-13 campaign on Sunday at the world renowned Pebble Beach Golf Links on the Monterrey Peninsula in California, with the Commodores dropping a 6-0 decision to 10th-ranked Texas A&M in the final round of the Carmel Cup. Vanderbilt competed against Texas Tech and TCU on Saturday afternoon.
Although the Commodores dropped all six matches, five of them came down to the final hole. Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh saw some positives out of Sunday’s round after a disappointing Saturday afternoon session against TCU.
“I was really proud of how our team handled themselves today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “I challenged them to be resilient after yesterday’s round, and I felt like they responded really well. They showed some resiliency on a good golf course against a great team.
“Five out of our six matches came down to the last hole today, and the great team, with their experience, finished their matches. But, there are a lot of positives to take away from this weekend. I’m still learning this team, and we’re going to take this experience and this opportunity and grow from it. I’m excited to get back home, have a couple of weeks of good practices, and get ready for the Mason Rudolph in a few weeks.”
TCU won the tournament with 11.5 points after splitting their last match with Texas Tech, 3-3, on Sunday. Texas A&M tallied 11 points, Texas Tech 9.5 points, and the Commodores finished with 3.5 points.
