Commodores finish opening-season tournament in California

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Vanderbilt completed its first tournament of the 2022-23 season Sunday with a final 18 holes at the Carmel Cup.

Vandy finished with a third-round total of 1,139 and was 59-over for the event to finish in eighth place at Pebble Beach.

Tillie Claggett led the Commodores on Sunday by firing a 1-under-par 71. The freshman, who had four birdies on the back nine, finished tied for 29th at 10-over-par for the tournament.

Celina Sattelkau had Vandy’s highest finish at 4-over-par and tied for 13th. Freshman Lynn Lim tied for 22nd at 8-over-par.

Virginie Ding (+17) came in 42nd, Natasha Kiel (+21) was 46th and Tess Davenport (+25) was 47th.

Stanford ran away with the team title at 12-under-par and beat Texas A&M by 13 strokes. Stanford’s Rose Zhang won the event with a three-day total of 203 (-13).

Vanderbilt will next host the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sept. 23-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club on the North Course in Franklin.
