Bryant, Cotter Top Performers at MTSU Meet 12/12/2005 Bryant, Cotter Top Performers at MTSU Meet Senior middle distance runners Latisha Bryant and Alisa Cotter were the team’s top performers at the Middle Tennessee Christmas Invitational, held Dec. 10 in Murfreesboro. The MTSU meet was the first competition of the indoor season for the Commodores. Bryant, from Atlanta, captured the 800 in 2:19.42. While her time was modest, coaches were impressed with Bryant’s ability to win while coming from off the pace. “I was proud of the way Latisha and Alisa competed. Both really showed heart and a desire to compete,” Coach Lori Shepard said. “As a team, we need to have more athletes competing at that level.” Cotter showed solid form in both the 800 and mile. Contesting the lead throughout the mile, Cotter ended up running a close second in 5:10.07, then came back to post a fourth in the 800. Kasi Foster showed her best form in more than a year. Hindered by illness last year, Foster finished a close fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 49’5″. Other Commodores competing were freshman Lauryn Smith, third in the long jump and fourth in the 200; sophomore Sydney Faulkner, second in the pole vault and sixth in the triple jump; senior Garnetta Holloway, fourth in the 55-meter hurdles and seventh in the long jump; sophomore Anjarae Washington, fourth in the high jump and sixth in the 55-meter hurdles; freshman Deanna Morelli, fifth in the shot put and eighth in the weight throw; and sophomore Amani Floyd, eighth in the 200 and 400. The squad returns to the track Jan. 13-14 for the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington. The SEC Indoor Championships are scheduled in late February at Gainesville, Fla. |
