Bowling's Garcia honored for academics

Aug. 25, 2010
Brittany Garcia became the third Vanderbilt bowler in two years to earn first-team honors when the 2010 Brunswick All-Academic teams were announced Wednesday by the National Ten Pin Coaches Association.

Garcia, who graduated last May, achieved a 3.68 grade point average in Medicine, Health and Society during her senior year. She had earlier been named to the NTCA’s honorable mention All-America team.

She had been cited for academic achievement three consecutive years but this was her debut on the five-woman first team.

Kayla Rhoades, a sophomore biology major, and junior Amanda Halter, who majors in Film Study, were named to the honorable mention list for student-athletes earning a 3.40 grade point average or better.

Last year, Josie Earnest and Michelle Peloquin were both first-team All-Academic picks. Since 2005, 29 Vanderbilt representatives have been named on the NTCA academic teams.
