Bowlers travel to Hawk Classic

Tournament Week #3: Vanderbilt travels the Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del., for Maryland-Eastern Shore’s Hawk Classic. This will be the Commodores’ last competition until after the winter holidays.

Tourney Information: The competition takes place Friday through Sunday with five quad-baker games Friday noon, five team games Saturday starting at 9 o’clock and best-of-seven bakers Sunday in bracket play.

Good history: Vanderbilt has won five of the past seven Hawk Classic tournaments. A year ago the `Dores were third, narrowly losing to the hosts in the semi-finals before beating Fairleigh Dickinson in the consolation finals.

Travel team: Eight Commodores made the trip: senior Lauren Rhein, juniors Nicole Mosesso and Natalie Goodman, sophomores Robyn Renslow, Amanda Fry, Tori Ferris and freshmen Giselle Poss and Nicole Powell.

Participating Teams: Adelphi, Central Missouri, Cheney, Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hampton, Howard, Kutztown, Long Island, UMES, Monmouth, New Jersey City, Norfolk State, Sacred Heart, Saint Francis (Pa), Saint Francis (NY), Vanderbilt.

About the Field: Adelphi, Central Missouri, FDU and Vandy were all pre-season Top 10 teams. Kutztown topped VU twice at the New Jersey Jamboree two weeks ago.

Coach’s Comment: “This tournament ends the fall portion of our schedule and we would like to finish on a positive note,” says John Williamson. “We want to have a full day of good play. We’d love to have someone step up and show why they belong in the rotation. So, yes, we are looking forward to finding answers this weekend.”

Travel Plans: The team will fly direct into Washington D.C., landing early enough Thursday morning to be able to tour the historic National Mall area before moving on to the competition site.
