Bowlers to Valpo Crusader Classic

Tournament Week #2: Vanderbilt travels to Valparaiso, Ind., for the Crusader Classic Friday through Sunday.

Tourney Information: The competition takes place at the Inman Recreation Center. There are five rounds of 5-game Bakers Friday, six traditional Team games Saturday with total pin fall setting Sunday’s championship bracket, which will be three rounds of best of seven Bakers.

Travel team: Eight Commodores will make the trip: juniors Nicole Mosesso and Natalie Goodman, sophomores Robyn Renslow, Amanda Fry, Tori Ferris and freshmen Giselle Poss, Nicole Powell and redshirted freshman Olivia Wirtz.

Participating Teams: Alma, Arkansas State, Central Missouri, Elmhurst, McKendree, Nebraska, Prairie View, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, Tulane, UAB, Valparaiso, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin-Whitewater.

About the Field: Stephen F. Austin is coming off its victory at the New Jersey Jamboree, where it beat 18 other schools including second place Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Crusader Classic picks up Central Division powers such as No. 1 rated Nebraska and No. 3 Central Missouri.

This Week at Practice: Vanderbilt had just two practice sessions since Monday is typically an off-day from the lanes and the team leaves Thursday morning. The team emphasized two points during its practices – improved spare shooting technique and individual attention to detail.

Coach’s Comment: “We are focused on this weekend,” John Williamson says. “We learned some lessons last week and I think you will see improvement. There are some very good teams in this field but we are also a good team and we are looking forward to the opportunity to compete.”
