Bowlers get their groove back

Jan. 23, 2009

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Vanderbilt’s bowling team seemed to regain its bearings during a long afternoon of Baker competition in the first day of the Ozark Invitational. The Commodores were inconsistent in Baker games last week and started slowly today but quickly turned things around to end on an upbeat note.

“One of our bright spots today was the performance of Brittni Hamilton,” said Coach John Williamson. “Nobody has ever doubted that she’s an elite bowler but in some of her previous Baker games we think she was trying to do too much. Today she threw the ball with confidence, executed like she is capable of doing and was absolutely dialed in.”

Vanderbilt, 50-10 on the year, dropped the first game of the day to a fine Minnesota-Mankato team but came back with three victories and a strong effort in a bye round.

Today’s results are not part of the official tournament but they established the pairings for tomorrow’s round-robin of team games. Host Central Missouri edged VU for the top seed and the two teams will meet in Saturday’s first game.
