Bowlers fifth in Jersey

Nov. 5, 2010

HOWELL, N.J. — Vanderbilt had an inconsistent Friday at the Fairleigh Dickinson Jamboree and finds itself in fifth place in the 18-team field.

The Commodores won three but dropped a pair of games to teams in the lower half of the field during the first of three long days of competition.

“We had some nice ups but followed most of them with some downs,” recounted Coach John Williamson. “We have not shown the ability to focus long enough to string four quality games back-to-back. We might be cruising along even or even plus (to a 200 pace) and then finish the set with a 150.”

Transfer Samantha Hesley was mentioned as perhaps the team’s most consistent performer.

“I thought Sam did a nice job considering it was her first NCAA competition,” Williamson said. “She had some nerves early but settled down quickly.”

The Commodores used six of their seven team members with Brittni Hamilton, Ellen Morrison, Kim Carper, Hester and Jessica Earnest getting the bulk of the work. Sophomore Courtney Morgan got into the lineup on several occasions.

Competition continues tomorrow with five traditional team games. Foes will include the top three teams on today’s leaderboard: Maryland-Eastern Shore, New Jersey City and host FDU.
