NASHVILLE — Andrew Giobbi’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning broke a 5-5 tie and lifted the Gold squad to a 6-5 win over the Black in the first game of the Black and Gold Series Thursday night at Hawkins Field.

Parker Hanks led off the ninth with a double to right-center and then advanced to third on a grounder by Adam Cronk. Giobbi then laced a single down the right field line to score Hanks to win the game.

The Gold squad squandered an early 4-0 lead, built on a two-run homer by Dominic de la Osa in the first inning and a RBI double by Adam Cronk and a RBI single by Giobbi in the second.

The Black got on the board in the third on a solo homer by Ryan Davis off of Gold starter David Price. They then took the lead with a four-run fifth to make it 5-4. Jonathan White had a two-run triple and Ryan Flaherty added a RBI single to tie the game. Flaherty would then score on a throwing error by catcher Jay Moreland to give the Black the lead.

Stephen Shao pitched four innings of two-hit relief to pick up the win for the Gold, while Casey Weathers gave up the run in the ninth in his second inning of work to get the loss.
