Barry Booker named SEC Legend

Vanderbilt sharp shooter Barry Booker will be honored at the 2017 SEC Basketball Tournament in Nashville as an Allstate® SEC Basketball Legend March 8-12.

Booker, who played from 1986-89, was one of college basketball’s premier outside shooters during the late 1980’s.  Known as the “Long Ranger”, Booker still holds Vanderbilt’s all-time 3-point shot percentage record at .460 and is second all-time on SEC charts in 3-point field goal percentage with at least 300 attempts.  He has the 7th best single season percentage in SEC history with at least 100 shots (85-170, 50%).

An academic all-SEC pick, Barry went on to a successful banking career and for many years has been a commentator on conference basketball telecasts.

The 2017 class includes George Linn, Alabama; Oliver Miller, Arkansas; Marquis Daniels, Auburn; Matt Bonner, Florida; Jimmy Pitts, Georgia; Keith Bogans, Kentucky; Tasmin Mitchell, LSU; Jason Harrison, Ole Miss; Dontae’ Jones, Mississippi State; Jon Sundvold, Missouri; Bobby Cremins, South Carolina; Ron Slay, Tennessee; Acie Law IV, Texas A&M; Barry Booker, Vanderbilt.

Each SEC Basketball Legend will be recognized at halftime of his institution’s first game at the tournament.

Highlighting the schedule of events at the Sunkist Soda SEC FanFare will be appearances by selected legends. Fanfare will be located at Broadway and 5th Avenue.

This marks the 19th year of the SEC Basketball Legends program.
