WACO, Texas – After defeating some of the top-ranked doubles team in the country on their way to the NCAA Elite Eight, No. 18 Ashleigh Antal and Astra Sharma fell Saturday night to Cal’s No. 5 duo. The tandem end their career together with a record of 19-4, and only one loss in the No. 2 doubles position.

Earning All-American status Friday afternoon, the pairing of Antal/Sharma was one of the most successful teams in Vanderbilt history. They are the fifth team to ever earn All-American status for the Black and Gold, and the first women’s doubles team to earn the esteemed honor since 2007.

On the indoor court of Baylor’s Hawkins Tennis Center the duo’s tournament run came to a close, with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat by the Bear’s Susanyi-Fabikova.

Looking ahead towards the future, Antal will head back to Nashville in the fall where she will continue working her way towards her degree in psychology. While out of eligibility, the Wilmington, N.C. native plans to attend as many Vandy tennis matches as possible.

Alongside Commodore junior Frances Altick, Sharma plans to do a bit of traveling throughout Europe, honing her skills in a few tournaments. The red-shirt freshman will return to VU next fall with three years of eligibility.
