BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – In the final day of the NCAA East Preliminary Round, freshman Liz Anderson just missed out on qualifying for the Outdoor Championship by two seconds.
Racing in the second heat of the 5,000-meter race, Anderson placed seventh with a time of 16:29.67. In the 5K, the top five times in each head plus the next two fastest times advance to the championship, with 16:27.04 being the second added time.
“Liz had a great race this evening,” said distance coach Steve Keith. “She made some very nice decisions in placing seventh in her heat and 14th overall. A couple of times in the first two miles she had to make a decision to bridge a gap and go with the front group and that kept her in the race.
“Liz has a great sense of running within herself and keeping a nice steady effort,” noted Keith. “Most importantly she is a racer and competes very well when it matters the most.”
This weekends meet closed out competition for the Commodores this season. Brionne Williams will compete next month at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships in the high jump.
