BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt cross country and track athletes Liz Anderson and Jillian Currie were honored by the Southeastern Conference for their contributions both on and off the track.

Anderson was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team after being the highest-finishing rookie in the 5,000-meter race at the conference championship meet last weekend. She finished sixth overall with a time of 16:41.27. This weekend, she will be competing in the NCAA East Preliminary in Bloomington, Ind., with hopes to advance to the NCAA Championship meet in Des Moines, Iowa in June.

Currie was recognized by the conference as a member of the Community Service Team. In her four years at Vanderbilt, Currie has volunteered with numerous projects, most recently serving as an assistant coach and running buddy for Girls on the Run, which is a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. Additionally, she served as an Early Childhood Director at La Escualera de Escalante, a bilingual library and literacy program.

The NCAA Preliminary round begins this Thursday at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex, on the campus of Indiana University.
