4/9/2006 Bloomington, Ind. — Junior Amy Huss continued her solid form last weekend, claiming her first race of the outdoor season by winning the 3,000-meter run at the Indiana Relays. Huss, who became the Commodore indoor record holder at 3,000 meters this winter, captured the race in 9:50.40, eight seconds ahead of senior teammate Erika Schneble. In other action from the University of Indiana meet, senior middle distance runner Caitlin Shannon earned second place finishes in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs, respectively. Two separate Commodore squads competed on the weekend, with the distance corps travelling to Indiana and the rest of the squad going to the Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, Miss. Both meets were impacted by adverse weather. In winning the Indiana Relays competition, Huss became the first fastest Commodore ever at the outdoor 3,000-meter distance. She trails only Beth Tallent, who ran 9:29.10 in 1994, and Beth Van Dusen, who finished in 9:42.44 in 1999. Huss eclipsed Tallent’s 9:41.90 3,000-meter indoor record in the final winter meet, running 9:40.43 at Notre Dame. Junior Val Kazmer finished second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a 7:29.69 effort, while senior Alisa Cotter posted a pair of fourth place finishes in the 800 and 1,500.
