All-American Joins Vandy Throwers

Sarah Omoregie is a two-time Ivy League shot put champion

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Director of cross country and track and field Althea Thomas announced that graduate transfer Sarah Omoregie will join Vanderbilt’s throwers this fall.

Omoregie claimed the indoor and outdoor Ivy League shot put titles while competing for Harvard in 2023. She was the runner-up in the event at the NCAA East Regional, throwing a personal best 17.67 meters. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships, she placed 16th in the event and earned second-team All-America honors. Over three years competing for Harvard, Omoregie recorded 17 individual collegiate shot put wins.

Omoregie will join a squad of Vanderbilt throwers that broke two school records and recorded five marks ranking on the program’s all-time top 10 lists in 2023 under head coach Thomas and associate head coach and throws coach Ashley Kovacs. Reigning SEC discus champion and All-American Veronica Fraley will return to Vandy’s throws squad, following the World Athletics Championships, where she will represent Team USA in the discus. Rising sophomore Giavonna Meeks will also be returning to compete for the Dores this fall. Along with being the school record holder in the hammer throw, she is the reigning USATF U20 and Pan American U20 hammer throw champion.
