FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Vanderbilt track and field boasted a trio of All-Americans, including two first-team selections, at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday.
Vanderbilt’s multi duo of Janie Ford and Marta Sivina earned first-team All-America honors, placing fourth and eighth, respectively, in the pentathlon. Falon Spearman was a second-team honoree in the 60-meter hurdles.
Ford compiled 4,405 points in the pentathlon to earn a fourth-place finish. Her score is a personal best and resets the program record she broke two weeks ago at the SEC Championships. In the 60-meter hurdles, Ford came within 0.01 seconds of her PR, clocking 8.31 seconds. She went on to turn in personal-best marks in the high jump and shot put. Her 1.75-meter high jump clearance is tied for eighth in school history. Ford was just short of her PR in the long jump, recording a 6.50-meter jump that ranked second among the field.
Sivina amassed 4,261 points to earn an eighth-place finish and a spot on the podium. She started her morning off with a PR of 8.39 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, improving her eighth-ranked time on the program’s all-time top 10 list. She ended her day with a pair of personal bests in the long jump and 800 meters. Sivina moved into sixth-best in Vanderbilt history in the long jump with a 5.94-meter mark. She turned in a time of 2:14.10 in the 800 meters, finishing third in the event. Her 4,261 points are just eight points shy of her PR, which she also set at the SEC Championships last month.
To close out the day, Spearman registered a time of 8.16 seconds to place 13th in the 60-meter hurdles.
The Commodores kick off their outdoor season on March 20 at the Hampton Inn River City Relays in Jacksonville, Florida.
