NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt pitching duo of Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter were both selected as All-Americans, announced Baseball America on Thursday.
Rocker and Leiter were first team selections as the Commodores were just one of three programs to garner multiple selections on the Baseball America list joining East Carolina and Mississippi State.
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association also pegged its All-America baseball squad this week with three Commodores receiving recognition.
Rocker and Leiter picked up their third All-America honors of the season with first-team distinction, joining teammate Enrique Bradfield Jr. who was also selected to the first team by the NCBWA.
Rocker leads the nation in wins with 13 on the campaign which is one shy of the Vanderbilt single-season record. The Athens, Georgia, product ranks second in the country in strikeouts with 155.
Leiter leads the nation in punchouts with 156 on the campaign while placing second in hits allowed per nine innings with a mark of 3.84.
The 2021 All-America team announcement precedes the presentation of the 34th Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear. The winner will be announced on MLB Network at 1o:15 a.m., CDT Friday and then at a national news conference via Zoom call at a time to be determined just prior to the 74th NCAA College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.
Vanderbilt is set to make its fifth appearance in the College World Series this weekend. The Commodores will open play on Saturday evening against No. 5 Arizona. The matchup is set for 6 p.m. airing on ESPN.
