July 18, 2011

After signing nine players that will enroll as freshman this fall, the Vanderbilt women’s soccer team has added a transfer student-athlete to its 2011 roster. Abby Carr joins the Commodores after one year as a Florida State Seminole.

abbycarrtransfers_225.jpgCarr made six appearances for an FSU team that advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2010, including one start in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. Carr was a three-time Dean’s List honoree in Tallahassee after enrolling in the spring of 2010.

A product of Miami Springs Senior High School, Carr was named the Miami Herald Player of the Year in 2009. A three-time All-Couty first-team selection, Carr helped lead Coach William Drew’s Golden Hawks to the state semifinals in 2008 and 2009.

The 5-9 midfielder has played her club ball for Coach Brian Dooley’s Team Boca side. The squad won a 2008 Florida state championship and recently were crowned US Youth Soccer Region III Championship at a tournament in nearby Murfreesboro, Tenn.

At Vanderbilt, Carr will rejoin club teammate Ashley Oswald, who signed a 2011 National Letter of Intent to play for the Commodores this fall.
