Vanderbilt opened up the team’s annual Omaha Challenge last week with three events – the 300-yard shuttle, 2-minute drill and PVC pipe relay.
The 300-yard shuttle is exactly what it sounds like, 300 yards of running back and forth. The 2-minute drill started out with tossing a 14-pound med ball over a 10-foot mark on the Green Monster in left field, followed by bench jumps, trap bar deadlifts of 225 pounds and finishing with push ups. All four exercises were done for 30 seconds with competitors completing as many reps as possible. For the the PVC pipe relay the players broke into their teams competing on the 300-yard shuttle course.
This year’s teams are led by team captains Rhett Wiseman (Union City Apple Pies), Zander Wiel (Zanderbilt Bombodores), Team Velo (Walker Buehler) and Ben Bowden (Cadillacs).
