#1 Dores finish round one at even par in Houston

First Round Results

HOUSTON – The number-one ranked Vanderbilt Commodore men’s golf team opened their spring season with an even-par, 288, in the opening round of the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston on Friday. The Commodores are in a tie for fifth with Charlotte on a rain-soaked team leader board, with the Commodores being one of only six teams to finish their first round in a day that featured a two and a half hour weather delay.

Vanderbilt, one of the first teams off Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT, was led by junior Theo Humphrey, who carded a one-under par, 71 at the par-72, 7,067-yard formatted AAI Course. Senior Matthias Schwab and sophomore Will Gordon carded an even-par 72, while sophomore Patrick Martin and freshman John Augenstein each finished their rounds with a one-over, 73. Sophomore Andrew Jacobe, who is competing as an individual, shot a two-over, 74.

Houston, who will have to return to the course Saturday morning to complete their first round, is sitting at eight-under par as a team. Second-place Baylor is four-under and has completed their first round, while the third and fourth place teams, SMU (-2) and Auburn (-1) still have to finish up their first round Saturday.

Charlotte, who is tied with the Commodores at even par, has between three and nine holes left in their first round.

“It was good to be back out there competing,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “I thought we did a lot of really nice things and had all five guys really battling today. However, we did a few sloppy things that kept us from having a better round. We need to be a little better tomorrow than we were today and continue to have high demands for ourselves.”

Baylor’s Cooper Dossey and UTSA’s Bryce Alley are tied for the individual led at four-under par. Alley must complete his first round Saturday morning.
