MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In straight sets in the championship match of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals earlier today, Jackie Wu defeated her fellow SEC opponent, Tennessee’s Brynn Boren, 6-1, 6-1.
“That was one of the best matches I’ve seen Jackie play start to finish,” said assistant coach Aleke Tsoubanos.
The Vanderbilt senior worked her way through the tournament defeating three top-seeded players in the tournament, including No. 1 Natalie Pluskota and No. 2 Boren, both of Tennessee, and Indiana’s Evgeniya Vertesheva, the No. 4 seed. Wu was the No. 5 seed going in.
“What she accomplished this weekend is a testament to how hard she’s worked this fall,” said Tsoubanos. “She really wanted it and the level of tennis she played, getting better with each match, reflected that.”
Wu not only won the tournament, but also the opportunity to compete at the USTA/ITA National Indoors next month in New York.
“This is a wonderful individual honor for Jackie and opens another opportunity to represent the Black & Gold at the nationals in New York next month,” said Tsoubanos.
