BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Vanderbilt’s women’s tennis team continued its strong singles play Saturday in day two of the Hoosier Classic. Through two days,the Commodores have been victorious in 10 of their 12 singles matches.
The Commodores were led by their four freshman as they all picked up singles and doubles wins Saturday. The ‘Dores highly touted class is now a combined15-2 in singles action this fall.
Freshman Jackie Wu improved her fall mark to 5-0 after dispatching Indiana’s Alba Berdala in straight sets 7-5, 6-0. Chelsea Preeg pushed her fall season record to 4-1 as she swept Ohio State’s Christian Keesey 6-2, 6-2. Erica Robertson won her fourth match of the season as she held on to defeat Lindsey Stuckey of Indiana in a second set tiebreaker, winning 10-7. Heather Steinbauer posted her second consecutive singles win in as many days after dispatching Purdue’s Joanna Craven in a second set tiebreaker.
In doubles action the Commodore duo of Hannah Blatt and Keilly Ulery put together a strong performance to win their second match in as many days as they knocked off Mississippi State’s pair of Martina Banikova and Valeriya Makarycheva 9-8(4) tiebreaker.
The Vanderbilt freshman tandem of Robertson and Wu put together a stellar comeback to defeat Kansas State’s duo of Katka Kudlackova and Antea Huljev,9-8(8) after being down six games to zero. Later in the day, Preeg and Steinbauer posted an 8-5 doubles win over the same Wildcat duo of Kudlackovaand Huljev.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow with singles competition starting at9:30 a.m.
