NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis returns to the courts this weekend as it travels to Lexington, Ky., to participate in the Kentucky Invitational. The tournament will start Friday morning with singles beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
The Commodores will be one of 12 teams competing this weekend as 61 singles players and 30 doubles teams will square off at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex Oct. 9-11.
Vanderbilt will see some new faces this weekend as the host team, Kentucky is the Southeastern Conference team. Joining the `Dores in Lexington this weekend is, Michigan, Virginia, Illinois, Ohio State, Penn State, Louisville, ETSU, Eastern Kentucky, Armstrong Atlantic State and Abilene Christian. Of the 12 teams participating, six finished the 2009 regular season in the top 40 of the Campbell/ITA College Tennis rankings, while Armstrong Atlantic State is the defending national champion in Division II.
The Commodores have played well this fall as they will look to improve on a few things as they prepare for the dual season. Vanderbilt’s sophomore duo of Chelsea Preeg and Jackie Wu have gotten off to great starts this fall as they have gone a combined 11-1 in singles. Preeg looks to remain perfect this weekend as she carries her 6-0 mark to Lexington while Wu is 5-1, including two wins over ranked opponents.
This weekend’s tournament serves as a nice tune-up before the `Dores travel to the Ohio Valley Regional at the end of the month, Oct. 22-26.
