NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s team returns to the hard court Thursday as it travels to Cincinnati, Ohio to play in the Wilson ITA Ohio Valley Regional Tournament. The regional tournament will run from Thursday, Oct. 22 through Monday, Oct. 26. Tournament play will begin with two rounds of singles qualifying and two rounds of doubles on Thursday.
The singles and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which run from Nov. 5-8, hosted by Yale in New Haven, Conn.
Vanderbilt will compete against a good variety of competition this weekend as teams including teams like Kentucky, Tennessee, Purdue, Louisville, Xavier and Middle Tennessee State.
Through three fall tournaments the Commodores have displayed its depth in both doubles and singles. Chelsea Preeg leads the team in singles wins this fall with nine while Jackie Wu has seven. Both Keilly Ulery and Hannah Blatt have six wins while Catherine Newman leads the team in wins against ranked opponents with four.
The ‘Dores will have four seeded players in the 64-player main singles draw while it will have two doubles teams seeded. Wu will be the No. 2 overall seed in the draw while Newman will be the No. 3 seed. Preeg is seeded sixth and Ulery is 15th.
VU’s Erica Robertson will be the lone Commodore playing in the singles qualifier on Thursday, as she will try to advance to the championship draw.
On the doubles side, the tandem of Preeg and Wu enter the main draw as the No. 3 seed in the tournament while the pair of Heather Steinbauer and Robertson are seeded eighth.
