GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team wrapped up its second tournament of the 2017 fall season Sunday afternoon, with three Commodores earning podium finishes in their respective singles flights at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic.

Junior Summer Dvorak won the flight five singles final over Furman’s Danni Vines. Dvorak downed the Paladin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. The Laguna Beach, Calif. native heads back to Nashville riding a career-long seven-match singles win streak.
Falling in yesterday’s flight six semifinals, Emily Smith rebounded to take third place over OSU’s Marybeth Hurley. The Buckeye ran away with the first set, only allowing the junior Commodore two games. Smith adjusted her game plan between first and second sets and took the competition in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
In a battle between two SEC freshman, Lauren Gish lost in the flight seven final to Tennessee’s Tenika McGiffin. Gish fought hard throughout the opening set and forced a first-set tiebreaker, however the Vol came out on top for the advantage. McGiffin sealed the victory in the second set, 7-6, 6-2.
The Commodores will span coast-to-coast next weekend, as several student-athletes were selected to compete in the 2017 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. The annual tournament takes place in Pacific Palisades, California and prequalifying rounds will begin on Sept. 30.
