BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Vanderbilt women’s team opened up this weekend’s Hoosier Classic in dominant fashion as every Commodore won their lone singles match of the day. The ‘Dores were the only team in the seven-team field to go undefeated in singles round-robin action.
“I was really pleased with the way our team opened up this weekend by going6-0 in singles,” Head Coach Geoff Macdonald said. “I thought we played with a strong effort and am looking forward to see what we can do in singles and doubles tomorrow.”
Freshman Jackie Wu improved to 4-0 as she defeated Ohio State’s Julie Blackmore in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Wu went 3-0 at last week’s Furman Classic en route to winning the third-flight bracket.
Chelsea Preeg and Erica Robertson pushed their fall season mark to 3-1 asthey knocked off Purdue’s Stephanie Wooten and Indiana’s Sigrid Fischer in consecutive sets, respectively.
Junior Hannah Blatt topped Anna Dushkina of Purdue in straight sets, while sophomore Keilly Ulery defeated Katya Zapadalova of Indiana, 7-6(3), 6-0.
In doubles action, the duo of Blatt and Ulery teamed up for the first time this fall to defeat Purdue’s pair of Joanna Craven and Jennifer Rabot, 8-6.
Tournament play will resume tomorrow starting with doubles at 10a.m.
