WT sends two to Oracle ITA National Fall Championships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Fernanda Contreras and Christina Rosca of Vanderbilt women’s tennis will compete this week in the final event of the collegiate tennis fall season, the inaugural Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.

With action beginning Wednesday, the nation’s top singles and doubles players gather in Palm Desert, Calif. The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships will feature a 64-player singles draw, while doubles play consisting of a 32-team draw.

Matches will take place at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Players qualified for the tournament through designated placings at earlier ITA National Championships and the ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle.

Contreras earned a spot in National Fall Championships after sealing the Commodores’ first Riviera/ITA National Championship in singles. Rosca also enjoyed a fruitful run at the Riviera Tennis Club, leaving Pacific Palisades as a quarterfinalist.

Contreras will take the court first on Wednesday morning, as the 13th-seeded junior faces North Carolina’s Sara Daavettila at 10 a.m. CT. Rosca will open tournament play later Wednesday against Ohio State’s Shiori Fukuda at 11:30 a.m. CT.
